JOB CREATION AND INVESTMENT

PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT
Vaal Maseru invests seriously in staff training.  We regard our employees as our most valuable assets.  A Training
Centre was established in 1997 where courses in driving (theory and practice), economic and defensive driving and basic economics is presented.  Regular informative lectures and seminars are being presented by various
organisations and specialists to all staff members to strengthen and uplift their self esteem and abilities.  Senior
Staff members are trained in Management theory and practice.  Development courses in important contemporary
matters are presented on a frequent basis to ensure middle- and senior management are equipped to cope with
the demand of challenges of today’s ever changing environment.  Staff in other areas are encouraged to undergo
training to advance their careers and self esteem.
Preliminary accreditation was granted by the Transport SETA (TETA) early in 2004 for the training of drivers and full accreditation is expected early in 2006.  This will also include accreditation from MERSETA and will eventually lead to training of technical staff according to National standards.
Various learnerships were granted by the Transport SETA (TETA) to Vaal Maseru in 2004 and a total of 14 people, of which 7 is external learners and 7 is from our own employees has written final exams in October 2004 at the Rand Afrikaans University as phase one of their planned career path in the Company.  Obviously the Company will endeavour to obtain further learnerships in 2006 and so to drive the process of staff development.
Vaal Maseru drivers actively participate at the annual Driver of the Year Competitions in the various operational
regions and the standard achieved is well above the average of participants at their competitions
.

CREATING OPPORTUNITY AND DEVELOPING ENTREPRENEURS
Smaller entrepreneurs such as hawkers and informal traders are allowed to operate in an organised fashion from
the various loading premises and ranks to encourage and grow the informal business sector, which we respect as
a very important force stimulating the economy of the various regions where we operate.
Vaal Maseru is involved in various BEE programs and Joint Ventures and through making available suretyship and expertise, ensure capacity building is created and fostered in our partners to eventually operate as stand-alone entities.
